Finally Friday...

Caitlin and I took a much needed day off today! She worked extra hard in school this week - and although recognizing that "Ta" stands for one note on the beat (vs. "TiTi") proved to be an insumountable concept for some reason - she did awesome. We headed out to the afore mentioned Cox Farms with our Bolling Area Home Educators (BAHE) group for some fun.

The weather was absolutely perfect - I was concerned because it really rained buckets last night - but all was well today - if not just a bit muddy. We posed for the pre-requisite group photo after entering and then headed to the hayride. It was pretty good! If it had anything to do with fairytales, safari creatures, aliens, sea creatures, cartoons, halloween, fall (or just about anything else!) we saw it on the hayride. And the alien even emerged from the space ship (with the Stars Wars Theme in the background) to greet us. I presume he had finished up with his crop circles?! From there - Caity and I visited the Slide-a-saurus. Slide-a-saurus was not prehistoric - but it was prehisterical. We grabbed out burlap bags and headed down - making sure we were on the "waxed" lanes! We did that 4 times before moving on. We did the Castle slide, the Jack and The Beanstalk slide, the Gold Digger slide and the volcano slide (complete with steam and a nest of pteradactyls?). We took in the milking show, milked, and saw baby pigs, chicks, bunnies, turkeys, goats, etc. Enjoyed the free apples and cider and then finaled with Slide-a-saurus!

And if the day was not complete enough - we had to fit in a series of 3 letterboxes in Centreville, VA. Really nice carvings in these boxes - the 3 different stamps fit together to form one complete picture. It was of a totem pole. The trek began and ended at the Ellanor C. Lawrence Walney visitors center. Well maintained place! Caity enjoyed seeing the display inside containing live specimens of toads, turtles and snakes. The bottom of our totem pole was a carving of "The Bear." The bear is a symbol of strength and great character - so we decided that being "Low Man on the Totem Pole" wasn't such a bad thing!

Happy Fall!
