Well this was a rainy Renaissance kind of day. First, MaeMae left before the crack of dawn for the airport. Downer for us - but we pressed on into school and began a Literature unit on the Brothers Grimm. Caitlin read an excerpt from the popular "Snow White and Rose Red." They were named after two of the rosebushes in their Mother's garden! What might your mother have named you? Caitlin chose to be Diadem Zucco and I would be Golden Jubilee Zucco. Quite the ring, don't you think?!
And have you ever heard of "Lorenzo the Magnificent?" Of course you have - me too?! He was a Medici and we learned that he was good at just about everything he did. He was very benevolent and did many good things for his hometown of Florence. And of cours
e, any third grader would study Donatello! He was known for his beautiful sculptures. Like all prominent Renaissance folk - he looked to those ancients for his inspiration. He brought back the tradition of military heroes in sculpture and is known for having beautiful, balanced works of art. Caity then did a bit of sculpting on her own. She had to sculpt a guardian animal and then give him a shield to hold that had her "symbol" on it. There were very specific directions on how to sculpt the animal and Caity did pretty good. I present...the Guardian Tiger with Star Shield - because after all - she is a star!
